Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, Welcome!

The Readiness Is All . . .
I started this site in 2004 after taking a Shakespeare course in college. I discovered a videotape of Branagh's Hamlet and was soon shocked to learn that it was unavailable on DVD.

What was perhaps more shocking was that people had already been trying to get the film released since around 1997! It turned out that practically no one on either side (Hollywood or Branagh's) knew exactly what was holding up the release of the film. In fact, it was initially difficult to discern who even owned the rights to a DVD release!

After months of research, it was discovered that Warner Brothers owned the rights to the film.

With the aid of Jude and Renata from The Kenneth Branagh Compendium, I was able to organize a letter writing campaign to the powers that be at Warner. After two years of pressure, Warner happily relented and agreed to release the film on DVD.

So, after three long years (or more) of waiting, to the delight of fans worldwide, Branagh's Hamlet was release in a two-disc Special Edition in August of 2007. Thanks to all those who made this possible.
